When looking for a wedding dress, you are often bombarded with a bunch of new terminologies. I thought I´d write a little blog post to help clear up what we mean when we talk about made to measure, custom, bespoke/couture, and ready to wear dresses.
While made to measure, custom and bespoke dresses are all made to your measurements, and dresses of each category will be unique to your shape and taste, made to measure dresses are simply your chosen dress from our collection made for you, in your measurements. This means that you are able to browse designs before trying them on and finding your perfect match. These gowns will be as close a fit as possible to your size and length, however will always need some alterations for a perfectly tailored fit.
Custom designed dresses are based on our dress collection designs and are also made to measure. However, we are able to make limited changes to the design of these dresses to suit your taste or preferences including colour, lace, sleeves and necklines. These gowns will be as close a fit as possible to your size and length, however will always need some alterations for a perfectly tailored fit. If you want to make major design changes or combine aspects of different dresses, that´s moving into bespoke dress territory.
Bespoke/couture dresses are completely unique designs, which can combine aspects of different designs, and include any and everything you want. Basically, I can design your dream dress from scratch! This is, however, a far more complex service, and as such comes with a longer wait time and a higher price tag. These gowns will be as close a fit as possible to your size and length, however will always need some alterations for a perfectly tailored fit.
Ready to wear dresses can be perfect for brides with a limited budget, or not enough time to wait for a custom or bespoke dress. We stock a limited number of dresses from previous collections, available in very limited sizes. While these gowns are not made to measure and have limited potential for design changes, they are sure to be perfect fits for the perfect bride.
I hope that clears up some of the tricky terminology used for wedding gowns! We are more than happy to work with you in any of these categories to find your perfect dress
