Nicole remembered that growing up, she would often try on her mother’s wedding dress for a bit of a laugh, but never imagined that she would end up wearing it on her own wedding day.
After visiting several bridal stores and failing to find a gown that she loved, she came into my studio and we discussed some ideas of how to create her dream dress within her budget. I suggested that instead of constructing a whole new dress, we could instead alter her mother’s gown.
When Nicole first brought in the 1980s dress, it had been in storage for years and was marked by rust stains, however after I carefully hand washed it the gown came up sparkling white. I was able to source an exact lace to match and created a whole new overlay from French bridal lace. I also changed the neckline and added a petticoat with hoop to give shaping at the bottom.
The end result was a modern, exquisitely constructed gown that has so much significance to Nicole and her family.

“The dress made me feel as gorgeous as my mum looked on her wedding day and having my dad walk me down the aisle brought tears to many of our guests. Lainee made the process so easy and was able to change the dress to be exactly as I had pictured it in my mind. It was so sentimental, sweet, and my dress had an amazing story behind it. I got so many compliments about my dress. Lainee really listened to what I wanted. She even made a custom hair clip for me with part of the original dress she cut off. I couldn't be happier!” Nicole
